8pm musings from the airport

A young shirtless, tanned man riding a bike and carrying his surfboard in his left arm peddled down Rose past me on my way to Main Street in Venice. That’s what I love about California: They take their quality of life very seriously. For all the quality of life there, I got a good amount of meetings and shoots done while still having time to take in the soft sand and cold waves of the beach. As I was being lulled to a dream-like state- partially from lullaby waves and partially from the sun-drenched breeze- I couldn’t help but be so proud of some of my friends & comrades (some who I haven’t corresponded with in some time) on their recent endeavors…David, whom I had caught up with in New York, and is always pushing the envelop on environmental education; all the Udallers from Tucson- with talks of putting together a vibrant alumni council for more support for the incoming scholars; Darren, whom I have just met, but is putting his good work to use in home renovation…

I’m in Dulles now, on my way to SUNY Binghamton to give a talk to the incoming freshmen class. It was awesome to hear all of what SUNY is up to on the green front, which just goes to show you how much colleges and universities throughout the states have upped the anti on environment. I’m psyched to meet with the students after the talk and have a hybrid version of “Generation Misunderstood” lined up — a personal overview of how Generation Y is solving today’s environmental dilemmas that matter most to us. I’ll let you know how it goes.
